My Photography Journey

My journey with photography began in the 1980s with a simple point-and-shoot camera. Like many photographers, I started by photographing family, friends, and everyday moments before experimenting with whatever subjects caught my attention.

As a young adult, I upgraded to a 35mm Yashica SLR, spending weekends photographing flowers in botanical gardens, wildlife at zoos, and experimenting with still life photography using homemade lighting setups. Even then, I enjoyed learning not just how to take pictures, but how light could transform an ordinary subject.

In 2015, I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon Rebel T3i, and photography became a much bigger part of my life. My wife and I began taking road trips across the country, visiting places like Crater Lake, the Oregon Coast, Minnesota's North Shore of Lake Superior, state parks, botanical gardens, and countless scenic destinations. Those trips sparked my love for landscape photography and the adventure that comes with searching for the perfect light.

In 2021, I moved to the Canon EOS M50 Mark II mirrorless system and expanded my skills into astrophotography, still life, and food photography. I also challenged myself by participating in the 52 Frames photography challenge, which encouraged me to think more creatively and photograph subjects outside my comfort zone.

Today, you'll most often find me exploring Texas State Parks, photographing coastal landscapes, wandering through botanical gardens and zoos, or creating food and still life images in my home studio. While landscape photography remains my greatest passion, I'm equally excited about developing my portfolio in food photography.

Photography continues to be a journey of learning, creativity, and exploration—and I'm excited to see where it leads next.
